CRITICAL REVIEW OF BEACH SAND MINING IN INDIA

2013-10-31  India, bestowed with a coastline of over 6000 km, hosts some of the largest and richest coastline placers. Our beach sand deposits and dunes contain heavy minerals like ilmenite, rutile, garnet, monazite, zircon, and sillimanite. With the help of favorable factors like network of drainage,

Processing of Beach Sand Minerals of Maharastra Coast

2012-12-19  INTRODUCTION India has large reserves of beach sand minerals in the coastal stretches around the country. Among these, ilmanite is the largest constituent of the minerals other being rutile, leucoxene, zircon, sillimanite, garnet and monazite. Ilmenite and rutile are exploitable minerals of beach sand and they also occur in fully liberated state.

Beach Placer Deposits of India, their Distribution

2020-4-8  Abstract: The placer mineral deposits along the east coast of India are known for the economic concentration of ilmenite, garnet, sillimanite, zircon, monazite, etc. Out of thismineral the ilmenite is most abundant followed by garnet and sillimanite. These resources are distributed in beach and dune environment of east coast. Some of the most important deposits in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha include Kakinada, Bhimunipatnam, Srikakulam, Bhavanapadu, and Chatrapur. etc. These deposits are explored and ore resources have been estimated by atomic minerals division department of Atomic energy, government of India. These deposits are identified along the East and West coasts of India and the total heavy mineral content (THM) of these placers ranges from 12% to 15% by weight. Out of these total heavy mineral content Ilmenite

2012-12-19  Presently in India, the working beach sand processing plants of IREL and KMML are operating on rich grade deposits, whereas the placer deposits in Australia, Brazil, Mozambique and Kenya are commercially exploiting beach sand deposits with only about 4% of Ilmenite, that too in a source range of about 4 to 25% of heavy minerals.

2012-4-20  Indian beach placer sand deposits are, in general, ilmenite-rich. However, some concentrations are dominated by pyriboles. The Chavakkad-Ponnani (CP) area along the northern Kerala coast is one such deposit. This paper deals with the general character of the heavy minerals of CP with special emphasis on the characters of ilmenite.

Recovery of Ilmenite and Other Heavy Minerals from Teri

2013-12-24  In India the highest concentration of Total Heavy Minerals (THM) in beach sand is found in the Chavara deposit (70 –80% THM with 60% TiO2) and Manavalakurichi (60 –80% THM with 50% TiO2). Pre-concentration by wet methods is generally not required for these deposits. With the Orissa deposits (~ 20% THM with ~ 48% TiO2) and for most other deposits throughout the world, bulk concentration of THMs are needed before actual separation of individual minerals is carried out. In general, the red sands of Orissa and Andhrapradesh coasts contain on an average 4% to 10% heavy minerals. Ilmenite constitutes around 60 -75% among heavies. Garnet is almost negligible amount. Sillimanite is about 5%. Zircon, monazite and rutile constitute around 10%. The rest is pyriboles (hypersthene and augite are common minerals; staurolite and kyanite are less common minerals). The beach placers and inland 'Teri' sands of Tamil Nadu containing, principally, ilmenite, rutile, leucoxene, zircon, monazite, garnet, sillimanite,
